Raw Free Energy News Hopper -- Aug. 16, 2010

This page contains items I placed in my news hopper, intending to format them for inclusion in the news, but limitations of having only so many hours in a day prevented it.  Rather than have them go unannounced altogether, I present them here in a raw format.

Preface Note:

A model of Tesla's remote-controlled boat housed at the Tesla Museum in Belgrade, Yugoslavia.
Photo from PBS documentary: The Missing Papers of Nikola Tesla

Compiled by Sterling D. Allan, Free Energy News
Covers misc. items submitted/culled from ~July 3, 2010 through Aug. 16, 2010

There are some real gems here that I wish I had time to develop further, whether into full feature pages, or at least a news bullet, posted both in our news and in the appropriate directory pages.

Hint, hint, maybe some of you might be inclined to post these.  Our PESWiki site is publicly editable -- the "Wikipedia of Free Energy".

Generally speaking, we get about twice as much great stuff as I have time to get around to in a given day, so some really fantastic stuff falls out of the inbox and gets lost in the shuffle.  Sometimes the very best stuff gets tucked away to get to later, because feature pages take a lot of effort -- especially the really good ones -- and later never comes.

And, of course, there is likely to be some bogus stuff here, along with some fraudulent stuff, that we've not had the time to sift through yet.

Have fun.  There's something here for everyone.  Bookmark this page and come back from time to time.  You're not likely to get through all the stuff you'll find interesting in just one sitting.

Unformatted News Stories

Features Hopper

Here are some links for pages I hoped to build features for.  May yet get around to it.  Maybe you could build a feature page at PESWiki for us on one or more of these? -- Sterling

Regular News Hopper

Here are some items I had in the hopper to post as regular news bullets.  There are, mixed in here, some material that was also going to go into feature pages. -- Sterling (Feb. 21, 2010)

For the most part, these are listed usually oldest first, newest last.

Carbon nanotubes are one of the most promising new materials in textile science.

They are sub-microscopic, hollow fibres of pure carbon. To the naked eye, they look like black powder, but their true fibre nature becomes apparent under the electron microscope.

Not only are carbon nanotube fibres are immensely strong but they also possess two special characteristics: they have excellent electrical and heat conductivity.

Buckytubes have extraordinary electrical conductivity, heat conductivity and mechanical properties. They are probably the best electron field-emitter possible. They are polymers of pure carbon and can be reacted and manipulated using the tremendously rich chemistry of carbon. This provides opportunity to modify the structure and to optimise solubility and dispersion.

Very significantly, buckytubes are molecularly perfect, which means that they are free of property-degrading flaws in the nanotube structure. Their material properties can therefore approach closely the very high levels intrinsic to them.

These extraordinary characteristics give buckytubes potential in numerous applications.

Buckytubes are the best known field emitters of any material. This is understandable, given their high electrical conductivity, and the unbeatable sharpness of their tip (the sharper the tip, the more concentrated will be an electric field, leading to field emission; this is the same reason lightening rods are sharp). The sharpness of the tip also means that they emit at especially low voltage, an important fact for building electrical devices that utilize this feature. Buckytubes can carry an astonishingly high current density, possibly as high as 1013 A/cm2.

An immediate application of this behaviour receiving considerable interest is in field-emission flat-panel displays. Instead of a single electron gun, as in a traditional cathode ray tube display, here there is a separate electron gun (or many) for each pixel in the display. The high current density, low turn-on and operating voltage, and steady, long-lived behaviour make buckytubes attract field emitters to enable this application.

Other applications utilising the field-emission characteristics of buckytubes include: general cold-cathode lighting sources, lightning arrestors, and electron microscope sources.

The special nature of carbon combines with the molecular perfection of buckytubes (single-wall carbon nanotubes) to endow them with exceptionally high material properties such as electrical and thermal conductivity, strength, stiffness, and toughness. No other element in the periodic table bonds to itself in an extended network with the strength of the carbon-carbon bond. The delocalised pi-electron donated by each atom is free to move about the entire structure, rather than stay home with its donor atom, giving rise to the first molecule with metallic-type electrical conductivity. The high-frequency carbon-carbon bond vibrations provide an intrinsic thermal conductivity higher than even diamond.

In most materials, however, the actual observed material properties - strength, electrical conductivity, etc. - are degraded very substantially by the occurrence of defects in their structure. For example, high strength steel typically fails at about 1% of its theoretical breaking strength. Buckytubes, however, achieve values very close to their theoretical limits because of their perfection of structure - their molecular perfection. This aspect is part of the unique story of buckytubes.

Buckytubes are an example of true nanotechnology: only a nanometer in diameter, but molecules that can be manipulated chemically and physically. They open incredible applications in materials, electronics, chemical processing and energy management.

Testimony before a Senate investigative panel this week is expected to reveal what many have suspected about BP all along; they don’t care about the environment, the animals that are dying, and the lives that are being destroyed by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

In a shocking interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on June 29th, Allegiance Capitol Corporation V.P. Fred McCallister said that BP is deliberately sinking oil with the toxic chemical disbursant Corexit, to hide the size of the oil spill. By sinking the oil before it can be collected, BP won’t have to pay fines on it.

McCallister said, “Everybody in Europe, where the standard practice is to raise the oil and collect it, is scratching their heads, and quite honestly laughing at what’s happening in the Gulf.” He added, “Everyone is looking at us and wondering why we’re allowing this to happen.”

McCallister is set to appear before a Senate investigative panel on Thursday and testify that BP’s only interests regarding the Deepwater Horizon spill is protectimg their own financial interests. His statements explained why BP has been refusing offers of help from additional foreign skimmers.

BP’s fear is that independent skimmers would be able to count the number of gallons collected, and thus provide the US government with data to assess spill rate financial penalties against BP, according to McCallister.

“BP is in control of this situation and they are doing what’s in the best interests of BP and their shareholders,” McCallister said.

Return Brick Recycling Robot Transforms Rubble into New Bricks

What if there was a machine that could automatically collect rubble from torn-down buildings and transform the material into new bricks? That’s exactly what designers Youngwoo Park, Hoyoung Lee and Miyeon Kim are proposing with their “Return Brick” recycling machine, which could help keep construction materials out of the landfill. The little robotic machine would search for small fragments of brick and concrete, grind them up, and reform those pieces into new Lego-like bricks, which are easier to stack and build with.

Report: Oceans' demise near irreversible --Moving toward the tipping point 04 Jul 2010 A sobering new report warns that oceans face a "fundamental and irreversible ecological transformation" not seen in millions of years as greenhouse gases and climate change already have affected temperature, acidity, sea and oxygen levels, the food chain and possibly major currents that could alter global weather. The report, in Science magazine, doesn't break a lot of new ground, but it brings together dozens of studies that collectively paint a dismal picture of deteriorating ocean health.

Mitigating Annihilation
Dahr Jamail: "From the air, the area north of Grand Isle, Louisiana, much of it around Barataria Bay, looks like scorched earth. This area has been and is heavily afflicted by BP's oil. The so-called cleanup efforts, including laying out booms to supposedly prevent oil from destroying more marsh and killing more wildlife, are a farce.Opaque, multi-color sheen stains much of the bay and is visible in countless inlets that snake their way into the marsh."

Hybrid Solar Collectors Produce Both Electricity and Hot Water

Solar panels suffer from one problem: the hotter they get, the less efficient they are. To deal with this, Solimpeks, a solar panel manufacturer in Turkey, is making hybrid solar panels that produce both electricity and hot water. With these hybrid panels, however, there is a double benefit. Not only is there the extra production of hot water with the same panels, but the removal of heat from the PV panels also increases their efficiency in generating electricity.

Tesla: The Missing Papers
April, 2004, PBS
http://www.pbs.org/tesla/ll/ll_mispapers.html

One of the more controversial topics involving Nikola Tesla is what became of many of his technical and scientific papers after he died in 1943. Just before his death at the height of World War II, he claimed that he had perfected his so-called "death beam." So it was natural that the FBI and other U.S. Government agencies would be interested in any scientific ideas involving weaponry. The morning after the inventor's death, his nephew Sava Kosanovic´ hurried to his uncle's room at the Hotel New Yorker. By the time he arrived, Tesla's body had already been removed, and Kosanovic´ suspected that someone had already gone through his uncle's effects. Technical papers were missing as well as a black notebook he knew Tesla kept -— a notebook with several hundred pages, some of which were marked "Government." Just after World War II, there was a renewed interest in beam weapons. Copies of Tesla's papers on particle beam weaponry were sent to Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. An operation code-named "Project Nick" was heavily funded and placed under the command of Brigadier General L. C. Craigie to test the feasibility of Tesla's concept. Details of the experiments were never published, and the project was apparently discontinued. But something peculiar happened. The copies of Tesla's papers disappeared and nobody knows what happened to them.

Not Surprised: Seep Detected Near BP Gulf Oil Spill Site

The cap that’s been keeping oil from gushing from the BP well that we’re all very familiar with at this point is now looking like it may be too good to be true. Late last night officials announced that a seep had been detected “a distance” from the well, and now the federal government is taking steps to make sure that BP monitors the situation closely and is able to devise another plan quickly in the case that oil is indeed still gushing from a previously undetected underground location. A spokesman for BP explained that it is still unclear whether the source was the blown-out well since seeps are a natural phenomenon in the Gulf.

Subject: The ultimate theory

Please review my concept for gravity and inertia and let me know what you think about my artificial gravity generator.

Ted

Theodore E. Davis
Davis Design Group
Jupiter, Florida

My concept is called "The Cosmic Matrix Displacement Model " (CMD model) . I presented my CMD model to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics convention "Future Flight" in 2004. I initially discussed my concept for gravity and inertia with NASA's John Cole. He recommended that I certify my concept with Dr. Terry Kammash professor of nuclear engineering and radiological science with emeritus status at the University of Michigan , Ann Arbor , Michigan , (My alma mater). After many discussions with Dr. Kammash in his office at U of M, he said we could obtain high risk venture capital funding to develop my CMD concept. He was working on several projects for John Cole at that time. To keep my project moving, he introduced me to Brice Cassenti a gravity physicist with Pratt and Whitney. After Brice reviewed  my concept , he suggested that I join the AIAA and present my gravity and inertia model to physicists at the AIAA "Future Flight" convention in 2004. My presentation was well received. Since then, I have presented my second paper,"The Dynamics of Galaxy Rotational Curves"( using the basic principals of the CMD model) at the 2006 AIAA convention in San Jose , California . To date, I have been working with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center to evaluate my concept.

The attributes of the CMD model have given me the ability to develop an experiment for an artificial gravity generator that could reduce Earth's gravity and possibly generate a negative gravity field capable of lifting heavy payloads directly into Earth orbit and beyond to the planets at velocities not yet attainable with current technology.

Automotive X-Prize Whittled Down To One Team For $5 Million Prize

Posted: 21 Jul 2010 09:07 AM PDT

Chances are, if you’re a green car blogs reader, you’ve heard of the Automotive X-Prize. I know I’ve been hearing about it for what seems like forever, as teams entered or dropped out of this contest to achieve a feasible 100 mpg car. The ultimate prize? $5 million. That is a lot of scratch. The field of contestants has been whittle down over the years, from over 100 entries down to just two left in the mainstream class.

Both entries are from the Edison2 team, differing versions of their Very Light Car. They have survived slaloms, high speed tests, and a slew of other obstacles to get this far. They still have a long way to go to get 100 mpg as the final slew of tests for the Automotive X-Prize kick into gear this week.

Stunning Video Of KC-10 Chemtrail MegaSprayer - Vid A pilot shots a chemical plane from his cockpit: the video shows an aircraft that spread chemtrails over Canada from the nozzles. The footage is the irrefutable proof of a chemical and clandestine operation that a bold pilot offers to the public in order to demonstrate that chemtrails are real. The "smoke" we can see is neither a fuel dumping nor a contrail. The chemtrails, in fact, is iridescent too. Don't listen to hoaxers who repeat that this document is false or similar lies. GETTING AROUND IRS & THE FEDERAL RESERVE
A LAWFUL REAL BLACKMARKET:
Competing currency being accepted across Mid-Michigan
07.12.2010 --New types of money are popping up across Mid-Michigan and supporters say, it's not counterfeit, but rather a competing currency.
Right now, you can buy a meal or visit a chiropractor without using actual U.S. legal tender.
They sound like real money and look like real money. But you can't take them to the bank because they're not made at a government mint. They're made at private mints.
"I sell three or four every single day and then I get one or two back a week," said Dave Gillie, owner of Gillies Coney Island Restaurant in Genesee Township.
Gillie also accepts silver, gold, copper and other precious metals to pay for food.
He says, if he wanted to, he could accept marbles.
"Do people have to accept dollars or money? No, they don't," Gillie said. "They can accept anything they want or they can refuse to accept anything."
He's absolutely right.
The U.S. Treasury Department says the Coinage Act of 1965 says "private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash, unless there is a state law which says otherwise."
That allows gas stations to say they don't accept 50- or $100 bills after a certain time of day in hopes of not getting robbed.
A chiropractic office in Lapeer County's Deerfield Township allows creativity when it comes to payment.
"This establishment accepts any form of silver, gold, chicken, apple pie, if someone works it out with me," said Jeff Kotchounian of Deerfield Chiropractic. "I've taken many things."
Jeff Kotchounian says he's used this Ron Paul half troy ounce of silver to get $25 worth of gas from a local station.
While the government and banks don't accept them, many others do.
So why is there interest in these competing currencies?

Report: 97 percent of scientists say man-made climate change is real
June 22, 2010, USA Today
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/sciencefair/post/2010/06/scientists-overwhelmingly-believe...

A new survey out this week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences ... found that 97 percent of scientific experts agree that climate change is "very likely" caused mainly by human activity. The report is based on questions posed to 1,372 scientists. Nearly all the experts agreed that it is "very likely that anthropogenic greenhouse gases have been responsible for most of the unequivocal warming of the Earth's average global temperature in the second half of the twentieth century." As for the 3 percent of scientists who remain unconvinced, the study found their average expertise is far below that of their colleagues, as measured by publication and citation rates. In the study, the authors wrote: "This extensive analysis of the mainstream versus skeptical/contrarian researchers suggests a strong role for considering expert credibility in the relative weight of and attention to these groups of researchers in future discussions in media, policy, and public forums regarding anthropogenic climate change." The report comes as the Earth continues to sizzle in 2010. So far, through May, 2010 is the warmest year ever recorded, according to the National Climatic Data Center.

Although the adoption of biomass power is on the rise in Europe, the same case is not true in the United States where renewable power generating facilities are increasingly coming under attack. Plans for a proposed biomass plant in northern Michigan were recently shelved due to public opposition, and the utility board has decided to reconsider a natural gas plant instead. Proposed facilities in other states are also facing opposition.

E. coli Bacteria Could Be the Next Source for Cheaper Biofuels

A team of researchers at LS9 — a self-described “renewable petroleum company” — have discovered that the unsavory Escherichia coli could be used to make so-called “drop-in” biofuels at existing pipelines and refineries.

Solar Power Is Cheaper Than Nuclear for the First Time

Here’s bright spot in the news of the day: energy from new solar installations has, for the first time, become cheaper than energy from new nuclear plants, according to a new Duke University study. Thanks to cost-saving technologies and economies of scale, price can no longer be an excuse to invest in nuclear power rather than solar.

to other measures, including electric and overall range, as well as the
plug-in perks that states like California offer to early adopters to
encourage them to opt for electric cars. This is where it gets
interesting. While California loves the Nissan Leaf, current regulations
deny Chevy Volt buyers two significant perks: [0] a $5,000 rebate, and

Oil Spill Update

First hour guest, ecological biologist David Blume talked about how bacteria can eat up some of the oil from the Gulf spill. However, the bacteria is taking up a lot of the water's oxygen which leads to a die-off of ocean life. He also noted that the dispersants used on the oil just make it look like it's gone, but it's still there on the surface.

Hawaii ideal for ocean-based renewable energy plants

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) involves placing a heat engine between warm water collected at the ocean’s surface and cold water pumped from the deep ocean. Like a ball rolling downhill, heat flows from the warm reservoir to the cool one. The greater the temperature difference, the stronger the flow of heat that can be used to do useful work such as spinning a turbine and generating electricity. Researchers say that the temperature differential is around one degree Celcius greater on the leeward side of Hawaiian islands it is better suited for future ocean-based OTEC energy plants. Why didn't we have Thorium when they were working on it during the cold war? Weapons proliferation

Why have they been suppressing alternative energy systems?

How else could they justify building the Large Hadron Collider and the new ITER system?

How do you make antimatter? Proton Accelerators!!!

If you control the means to make the most powerful weapons in the universe, ones capable of destroying entire planetary systems, who is going to stop you from doing whatever you want? Aliens?

"There is considerable skepticism within the physics community about the viability of antimatter weapons. According to an article on the website of the CERN laboratories, which produces antimatter on a regular basis, "There is no possibility to make antimatter bombs for the same reason you cannot use it to store energy: we can't accumulate enough of it at high enough density. (...) If we could assemble all the antimatter we've ever made at CERN and annihilate it with matter, we would have enough energy to light a single electric light bulb for a few minutes."

Are we really supposed to buy this crap? These machines are using Gigawatts of power, something on the order of 20% of the US nuclear power generation capability.

They suppressed the Polywell device, why? Farnsworth Fusor, why?

History repeats itself, why wouldn't they be building weapons?

World’s First Grid Scale Flywheel Energy Plant Opening Soon!

While it doesn’t get nearly as much attention as alternative energy sources like solar or wind power, flywheel storage technology is definitely worth looking into. A kinetic energy-based technology that stems from the same elementary movement that potters and spinners have been using for centuries, the power storage tech will soon be harnessed at the world’s first grid-scale flywheel-based energy storage plant in New York. The $69 million plant will go online later this year and will be a force to be reckoned with – Beacon Power, the company behind the operation, estimates that it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 82 per cent over its 20-year life and provide about 10 per cent of the state’s energy frequency regulation needs.

Colorado Startup Uses Coal-Eating Bacteria to “Grow” Natural Gas

Who needs to drill more holes to get more natural gas when you can just “grow” it in existing ones? Luca Technologies, a Colorado-based startup, has devised a way to generate and extract more natural gas from dried-up coalbed methane wells. The trick: Injecting water, a bunch of microbes, and nutrients into coal seams to jump-start the process, in which bacteria digest coal to make methane, the primary constituent of natural gas. “It’s almost like fertilizing the lawn. We’re helping the biogenic natural gas process,” Robert Pfeiffer, the company’s CEO, tells CNET News. “The whole basin is already made by this same microbial life we are working with today.”

Called the AK-1000, it is over 70 feet tall and weighs more than 130 tons, and should regularly generate 1 megawatt of electric power.
