Is There Such a Thing as a Single, Green Power Source?
The search for the single, green power source that will meet our
energy needs and protect the health of the environment may be an exercise
in futility, says Elizabeth Thomas, an energy consultant with Preston
Gates & Ellis in Seattle.
Several regions in the United States are facing
existing or imminent shortages of electric power even though numerous
power projects have been proposed. Most will never be built due to legal
or political constraints. "Frequently, these constraints stem from or
are encouraged by a myth," writes Thomas. The "myth" she
speaks of is one "perpetuated by some environmental interests, that a
single 'green' or 'environmentally friendly' resource exists or may be
developed."
Has such a
power source already been invented?
